Exam Policies
Leaving the Examination Room
Candidates sitting examinations at LPTC must remain the examination room at all times once they have been called in prior to the start of an examination until they are formally dismissed after the end of an examination.
Candidates are not permitted to leave an examination room until the published examination time has elapsed and they have been dismissed by their invigilator, with the following exceptions:
- Candidates who have a medical emergency which requires treatment outside of the exam room momentarily (they will be supervised by a fully trained member of the examinations team whilst receiving treatment from the centre’s trained First Aider)
- Candidates who have an emergency situation which requires them to leave the exam room momentarily will be escorted and supervised by a fully trained member of the examinations team
- Candidates who require use of the toilet during an exam will be escorted to the designated toilet for exam candidates, the invigilator will remain directly outside of the designated toilet at all times and will escort the candidate back to the exam room
- Candidates who have an approved Access Arrangement such as a Rest Break which requires them to leave the exam room momentarily will be escorted and supervised by a fully trained member of the examinations team
- Candidates are not permitted to leave the room except in an emergency (escorted and supervised as above) within the first 30 minutes or last 15 minutes of an examination
Candidates with an approved access arrangement for extra time may leave the room (once dismissed) at any time from when the published examination duration has elapsed to the end of their maximum extra time allowance for the exam.
All instances where a candidate leaves the examination room will be logged on the incident log (time left the room, time of return to the room, candidate number). Any patterns in absences will be noted by the Examinations Officer and may be referred to the Head of Centre, or the applicable Awarding Body if there is any suspicion of/ or alleged malpractice.
Candidates leaving the examination room, for example for use of the toilet – except in the case of an emergency or approved access arrangement – will not receive any time back for their absence.
In all instances candidates will only be escorted from an examination where there would remain sufficient invigilation ratios within the exam room as per the regulations. Candidates may be required to wait a short time for a member of the exam team to become available to escort them from a room.
