COURSE AIMS:
On this course you will expand your academic writing skill set and learn how to produce a thorough and high standard extended essay especially argumentative research essays. Examining the structure of an argumentative essay, it embraces a universal framework for any topic. Providing practical advice on brainstorming, online research, and assessing information source quality. You’ll have the opportunity to practise researching and writing your own paragraphs for an essay as well as giving and receiving feedback.
Contents:
The topics covered in this workshop are as follows:
- Introduction to research tools,
- Searching for credible sources and referencing,
- Reading and note taking
- Fundamentals of writing (essay structure, proof-reading and avoiding plagiarism).
- Appropriate language (stance and voice, contextual language and tone)
- Academic referencing.
- Planning of the essay (analysing an essay question & developing an argument)
- Building an essay (revising, editing, recognising common genres)
- Review (identifying consistency, structure, formatting, and common writing errors).
