English for Speakers of Other Languages

COURSE AIMS:

ESOL means English for Speakers of Other Languages. ESOL courses are for people who speak English as a second or other language, and who are resident or permanently settled in the UK.

These courses will help you to increase your independence, as well as develop the language skills you need for everyday life, employment and further study.

They start from Pre-Entry Level for those with little or no English and continue through, Entry Level 1, Entry Level 2, and Entry Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2.

Contents:

ESOL courses provide you with a thorough introduction to the English language, covering all four skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing. You will also be able to improve your grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.

ASSESSMENT:

  • Your skills will be assessed regularly. You will work towards ESOL Skills for Life qualifications (Reading, Writing and Speaking and Listening formal assessments). Your skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing will be assessed through examinations, and your tutor will advise you when you have the language skills needed to pass the exams.
